Sex and Creativity
Hey there, gorgeous-
In the realm of personal development, it’s hard to find a text more influential than “Think and Grow Rich”, by Napoleon Hill. Have you read it?
While it’s the bestselling success book of all time, the chapter titled “The Mystery of Sex Transmutation” is rarely discussed.
In “Think and Grow Rich” (TAGR), Hill writes that,
“sex desire is the most powerful of human desires. When driven by this desire, people develop keenness of imagination, courage, willpower, persistence and creative ability unknown to them at other times. So strong and impelling is the desire for sexual contact that people freely run the risk of life and reputation to indulge it. When harnessed at redirected along other lines, the positive attributes of this motivating force may be used as powerful creative forces in literature, art or any other profession or calling, including, of course, the accumulation of riches.” (p. 206)
Sexual energy IS creative energy. Repressing it has potentially dangerous consequences (sexual abuse, assault, etc.). Cultivating it in a healthy way unleashes both men and women to be fully expressed and therefore live out our unique, divine, creative purpose.
Unfortunately, the topic of sex is still a taboo in many cultures. Even more, a sexually empowered woman is often considered to be such a threat that at best she becomes the subject of “slut-shaming” or at worst, murdered.
As a result, most women are conditioned to cut themselves off from their sexuality. We are taught to believe that our natural sexual desires and even our own beautiful feminine bodies are “dirty”, “evil”, or cause men to “sin”.
To me, this is beyond tragic. Not just for women, but for all of humanity.
I’ve learned, not only from all the research I’ve done on how to cultivate my creativity, but from my own lived experience, that our power comes from our pleasure, ladies!
I believe that when women are able to trust and act upon their intuition, freely express themselves without guilt, shame, and in spite of fear (it’s always there - we just have to have a healthy relationship with it), and allow themselves to experience pleasure and joy, we naturally become radiant and enlightened leaders that are creative, inclusive, and transformational.
True self-actualization requires loving our WHOLE selves - a full integration of the parts of ourselves that we love and the parts we don’t love so much (our shadow).
For many women, our sexuality has been forced into the shadow. We’ve dissociated from it to be accepted by our families, religious communities, society, and other groups/institutions.
As many of you already know, this month I start a professional certification program to become an Integrated Sex, Love, and Relationships Coach through The Tantric Institute of Integrated Sexuality.
This coaching certification is a continuation of an amazing journey that I began about three years ago when I experienced my own spiritual awakening.
I am called to do this work on the deepest of levels - it feels so natural for me and SO needed at this time.
My Facebook group, “The Creative Living Revolution” was inspired by the recognition that in order to live out our unique, divine, creative purpose at its fullest expression, we must make a priority of cultivating our sexual/creative energy.
Going forward, it is my hope that this group will become a safe space for us to explore sexual energy as fuel for our creative endeavors and to how to integrate sex, love, and relationships into our lives as feminine leaders in the 21st century.
It’s also very important to me that we do this with a focus on fun and keeping a sense of humor! I’m also looking forward to learning from YOU and your experiences in this arena.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions or concerns.
Of course, if the purpose of this group no longer resonates with you, I understand if you choose to no longer participate. However, I hope you will have an open mind and heart as we begin this journey together!
While I understand that this conversation may be outside of your comfort zone, I encourage you to lean into any discomfort this may trigger inside of you and become curious about it.
All my love and gratitude,
