I Used to Force Things in My Life and Business
I’m not sure what part of the world you’re in at the moment, but outside DC the seasons are beginning to change from Summer to Fall. This morning, the air outside was crisp and cool. Yellow leaves are starting to peek through the fading greenery.
Looking at my calendar for the rest of 2015, I’m reminded that have a lot going on and must remember to factor in time for self-care to support me in staying healthy. My routine won’t change too drastically; my daily practices include meditation (at least 5 minutes, but ideally I like to do for 20 minutes twice a day) and journaling. Acupuncturewill remain a bi-weekly practice and I like to get a facial every 6 weeks. However, I tend to require more sleep during the colder months and have less energy.
For the past two months I’ve been blessed with near perfect health, but today I woke up with a sore throat and chills. This sometimes happens with the changing seasons as my body adjusts to the cooler temperatures and requires more rest. In the warmer months I need 7 hours of sleep to feel well-rested. When it gets cold, I need about 8 hours.
I’ve been exercising quite a bit recently; I’ve been in the yoga studio at least 3 times a week and will sometimes make it there up to 6. In addition to needing more sleep when it’s cold out, I’ll probably cut back on working out. I’m not sure where I’ll end up once it’s consistently cold, but from years past, I know it’s only a temporary slow-down and when it finally warms up again, I’ll be back to working out a lot.
I’ve learned so much from my acupuncturist, Renee Grant, about the benefits of living in harmony with the seasons. I used to fight my need for more rest as it got colder; I had to learn the hard way that it’s much easier and more pleasurable to listen to my body instead of forcing it to do what it doesn’t want to do.
Now I want to hear from you. What is your self-care routine? Does your energy level change with the seasons? Head on over to www.heatherrebeccawilson.com and comment on the blog now.
